Iconography

”I am emboldened to depict the invisible God, not as invisible, but as he became visible for our sake, by participation in flesh and blood. I do not depict the invisible divinity, but I depict God made visible in the flesh." - St. John Damascene

Iconography is the ancient Christian art of depicting Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints in images. Icons are windows through which one is able to commune with the person pictured. Our students will spend the week painting an icon of Christ under the guidance of an iconographer. The icons will then be blessed in a closing liturgy on the last night of the camp. It is our hope that they will then be a blessing to the homes of all our participants and a reminder of the beauty they witnessed at the Summer Institute.
